dlb + associates, LLC was started by Daniel L. Berg in August 2010. Mr. Berg has been in the surveying business since 1984, a period of rapid change in surveying technology. He started with optical theodolites, steel tapes and trig calculators and has seen it through to GPS satellites, the Internet and powerful field computers.
Mr. Berg is licensed surveyor in California (PLS 6318) and Hawaii (PLS 11245). His specialty is boundary surveying. This is where the science of measurements, the art of recovery and the puzzle of the law converge!
Mr. Berg understands owners pay dearly for a surveyors expertise and all they may see is colored flagging in the bushes. He takes care to prepare aesthetic maps that indicate the logic of establishing a boundary according to accepted legal principles. The goal is a ‘court defensible’ solution.
In Hawaii, the real estate industry has adopted the term ‘staking’ as applied to boundary surveying. This is unfortunate. Re-establishing lost or obliterated boundaries is not simply a mathematical exercise the word ‘staking’ implies. Character of a property monument, occupation, location of adjoining monuments and possibly junior/ senior rights must be considered.
